Setup Windows Phone 8 with Microsoft Account

Date and Time

  • On the Start screen, swipe left to view App list
  • Tap Settings and then go to date + time

  • Provide your phone with current Time zone, actual Date and exact Time
  • Go back to the Settings menu and choose email + accounts to set up your phone

Data Connection

Another reason for not being able to sign in with a desired account is insufficient data connection. The phone could not be setup without accessing internet. A recommended option is to connect through a Wi-Fi network, as it is immediate and reliable.

  • On the Start screen, swipe left to view App list
  • Tap Settings and then go to Wi-Fi settings
  • Drag the slider to turn on Wi-Fi networking
  • Select an available network, and connect to it through a valid passkey (one time)
  • Go back to the Settings menu and choose email + accounts to set up your phone

Bad State of Phone

  1. i tried this fix but didnt work, i reset my phone and went through the set up but when i got to sign into microsoft account it says the same message (cant connect were having a problem signing in. make sure you have a good reception. if you do the problem may be on the other end. wait a little while and try again.)

    please help, i dont know what else i can do, wanted to add some apps on my brand new htc phone and getting this headache.
